National Trail in Quebec

Eudore Fortin and Réal Martel present the project during the inauguration.

On May 16, 1998, the official integration of the section of the “Charlevoix Traverse” into the “Sentier national au Québec” took place. The inauguration was attended by Eudore Fortin (President of the Charlevoix Traverse), Réal Martel (President of the Sentier national au Québec), Normand Renaud (President of the Comité Sentier Québec), Rosaire Bertrand (Member of Parliament for Charlevoix), and Jacynthe B. Simard (Prefect of the Charlevoix Regional County Municipality).

Participants enjoyed various guided excursions throughout the weekend, each leading visitors to one of the many peaks in the area. An interesting fact to highlight: all of these trails were developed by Mr. Fortin himself over the past 20 years.

The mission of the Sentier national au Québec (S.N.Q.) project is to connect Ontario to New Brunswick through a continuous hiking trail of over 1000 km. The route will primarily pass through wilderness areas. Many sections are already accessible.

Trails that give the urge to revisit this part of the country.

The route already passes through prestigious locations such as Gatineau Park, Mont-Tremblant Park, and Jacques-Cartier Park, north of Quebec City.

Three people very much involved in this project:
Eudore Fortin (President of the Charlevoix Traverse),
Réal Martel (President of the Sentier national au
Québec), and Normand Renaud (President of the
Comité Sentier Québec). In the background is a
dominating Mont du Dôme.
